After the <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-rangers">New York Rangers</a></strong> traded Artemi Panarin, the 32-year-old American became the number one trade candidate in town. With the way the 2025-26 season has gone for the Blueshirts, a move might happen sooner rather than later. </p>



<p>Where to? Much like Panarin’s situation, that question has several possible answers. However, <strong>Trocheck’s 12-team no-trade list</strong> means the options narrow down, and the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-islanders">New York Islanders</a> may well be among the teams in the race for the veteran center. According to a recent report around the NHL, Trocheck made his intentions clear to the Rangers regarding where he’d like to play next. </p>

Moreover, they <strong>could even afford an inflated price tag</strong> if the Rangers decide to tax the in-state move. From Trocheck’s perspective, it might be an ideal move, as he wouldn’t have to say goodbye to his home in the Big Apple, where he’s been for the past four seasons.</p>

<h2>Trocheck’s contract clause</h2>



<p>However, there is a big question mark floating over the “Trocheck to the Islanders” rumors. Trocheck’s contract with the Rangers—which runs through the 2028–29 NHL season—includes a modified no-trade clause (M-NTC) in the <strong>form of a 12-team no-trade list. </strong></p>



<p>Whether the Isles are on that list or not has yet to be reported, but it’s a real possibility. In contrast, the <strong>Minnesota Wild</strong> have emerged as the frontrunner to trade for Trocheck, and reports indicate the <strong>organization in the Land of 10,000 Lakes has received the green light</strong> from the veteran center.</p>

<p>Moreover, after sweeping the season series against the Blueshirts, taking Panarin away from them <strong>would be the cherry on top</strong>. However, there is one big obstacle on the way: the Rangers would most likely be unwilling to send Panarin to Long Island.</p>

<p>Despite the leverage granted to Panarin thanks to his no-movement clause (NMC), the Blueshirts still have a say in the matter, and one would expect that doing business with the Isles is not on their to-do list for 2026. <p>As with every decision around the league, there is significant risk. For Chris Drury and the front office, such a piece of business could drive them out of Manhattan. However, in times of need, the two clubs can put their differences aside and make business. That is definitely the case as the Blueshirts plan to send one veteran blueliner to the organization in Long Island.</p>



<p><em>“I’m hearing [the Rangers] are on the verge of their first move of the retool. A<strong> trade that sends Carson Soucy to the Islanders is brewing</strong>. <h2>Update on Panarin</h2>



<p>According to a report from Elliotte Friedman, <strong>Panarin wants to join the Florida Panthers.</strong> However, the reigning back-to-back Stanley Cup champions are severely cap-constrained at the moment, making a trade for Panarin unlikely. </p>

<p>Unless New York takes on roughly $10 million in dead cap space, a move for the ‘Breadman’ doesn’t make much sense for Florida—especially considering the Panthers could <strong>simply wait for him to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA)</strong> in the summer and pursue him then without giving up draft picks, which are becoming a finite resource in Sunrise.</p>

<h2>Has Schaefer played for Team Canada before?</h2>



<p>Schaefer won’t be playing for his country’s U-20 team in the 2026 World Juniors, but he has done so in the past. Last year, Schaefer—then a 17-year-old—made the cut for Team Canada’s roster. However, the <strong>Great White North failed to deliver</strong> when playing at home. </p>

<p>Team Canada and Team USA are already planning for the international competition in Milan, Italy. Though Canada’s roster is stacked, Schaefer has put the scout team on notice with his sensational start in his rookie year. As <strong>the favorite to win the Calder Memorial Trophy</strong>, the first overall pick has made his case to join the star-studded squad in its trans-Atlantic venture. </p>



<p>Although the Islanders will not be loaning Schaefer to Team Canada for the World Juniors, <strong>it’s not up to them to decline an invitation</strong> from the senior team for the Olympics. <p>The <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-islanders">New York Islanders</a></strong> made a surprising decision six games into the 2025-26 <strong>NHL</strong> season, <strong>parting ways with longtime goaltending coach Piero Greco</strong>. The move comes despite the team winning three straight games, highlighting the urgency the organization feels regarding its goaltending performance.</p>



<p>General manager <strong>Mathieu Darche</strong> confirmed the change Wednesday, announcing that <strong>Sergei Naumovs</strong>, promoted from the AHL’s Bridgeport team, will take over the Islanders’ goalie coaching duties. Naumovs has a history with star netminder <strong>Ilya Sorokin</strong>, dating back to their time together at CSKA Moscow in the KHL from 2018 to 2020.</p>



<p>Sorokin’s start this season has been rocky. His 3.90 goals-against average ranks second-worst, while his .873 save percentage is fourth-worst among NHL goalies with at least four appearances. Darche stressed the decision is <strong>about resetting the team’s goaltending, not any individual player</strong>. <em>“Piero has done a great job for the organization for the last seven years,”</em> he said, according to SNY. <em>“<strong>We just felt at this time it was the right timing to have a reset with our goalies</strong>.”</em></p>



<h2>Why did the Islanders act so early in the season?</h2>



<p>Darche clarified that <strong>Sorokin</strong> had no role in the decision. <em>“<strong>It’s my decision — it’s not on the player,</strong>”</em> he said. <em>“I know he’s had success with Sergei, and that’s where we went. It’s 100% my decision, and the goalie had nothing to do with it.”</em></p>

<p>The move comes as the team navigates a challenging start with other roster issues. Forward <strong>Pierre Engvall</strong> is expected to miss five to six months after ankle surgery, while veteran goalie <strong>Semyon Varlamov</strong> continues his recovery from knee surgery. The Islanders also placed <strong>Marc Gatcomb</strong> on waivers, who had appeared in only one game this season.</p>

<p><strong>Matthew Schaefer</strong> recorded a goal and an assist for the <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-york-islanders">New York Islanders</a></strong> in a hard-fought 4-3 win against the <strong>San Jose Sharks</strong> at UBS Arena on Tuesday. The young defenseman showcased poise and skill as the Islanders secured their third consecutive victory.</p>



<p>The 18-year-old, selected first overall in the 2025 <strong>NHL</strong> Draft, extended his point streak to six games (two goals, five assists), joining Marek Zidlicky as the only defensemen in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> history to record a point in each of their first six career games.</p>



<p><em>“<strong>I love winning. I hate losing. <p><strong>Bo Horvat</strong>, <strong>Casey Cizikas</strong>, and <strong>Emil Heineman</strong> also scored for the Islanders, while <strong>Ilya Sorokin</strong> stopped 33 shots. For<strong> San Jose, Collin Graf</strong>, <strong>Adam Gaudette</strong>, and <strong>Macklin Celebrini</strong> scored, and <strong>Yaroslav Askarov</strong> made 23 saves.</p>

<h2>Schaefer’s historic start and game highlights</h2>



<p>Graf gave the <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/san-jose-sharks">Sharks</a> an early 1-0 lead</strong> with a short-handed goal at 8:29 of the first period. <strong>Horvat tied the game</strong> on a power-play goal at 9:26, and Cizikas followed just over a minute later to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead. Gaudette evened the score at 2-2 before Heineman gave New York a 3-2 advantage late in the period.</p>

<p>Schaefer extended the lead to 4-2 in the second period after receiving a pass from <strong>Anthony Duclair</strong> and firing a shot past Askarov. Celebrini narrowed the gap to 4-3 in the third, but the Islanders held on for the win.</p>



<p>With this streak, <strong>Schaefer joined elite company</strong>, becoming the fourth 18-year-old in NHL history to start a career with a six-game point streak alongside Alexandre Daigle, <strong>Sidney Crosby</strong>, and <strong><a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/wayne-gretzky">Wayne Gretzky</a></strong>. He also became the youngest defenseman in NHL history to score a game-winning goal at 18 years, 46 days.</p>
