<h2>The interim head coach candidates</h2>



Firing a coach in a franchise can be very costly, and as an immediate measure, it becomes crucial to appoint someone internally to take charge right away in order to lead the first practices of the week.



According to Paul Kuharsky’s official X account (formerly Twitter), there are three candidates to take over as interim head coach: Special teams coordinator John Fassel, defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson and senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy.

Well, the Titans signed him to a five-year contract back in January 2024. According to Spotrac, Callahan was getting paid around $3 million per year. Now, the Titans will continue to pay that all the way until 2028.



It depends on whether how the contract is redacted, but usually, the coaches’ money will still get paid once they’re fired. A few years ago, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> teams pay up to $800 million on fired coaches and front-office executives.



<h2>Callahan never showed head coaching material</h2>



Callahan was appointed as head coach because he was an offensive oriented coach that would change the way the Titans attacked on the field. He was never capable of doing that. Not only with Will Levis, now he’s also failed to do so with the first overall pick in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cam-ward" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cam Ward</a>.

For Ward, this is good. While changing head coaches when a rookie QB is in place is usually not good, Callahan didn’t look prepared to guide Ward. With Ward, you need a solid, stable head coach able to give the quarterback a chance to make growth while playing NFL games.

<h2>Callahan’s offensive numbers are very bad</h2>



In 2024, the Titans offense ranked 26th in total yards, 26th in passing, 20th in rushing offense, and 27th in scoring. That was with Will Levis under center. So… Ward was about to change that, but it was really an indictment on Callahan.



This year, they’re even worse. Tennessee is 31st in scoring, 31st in rushing, 31st in passing, and dead last in total yards. It’s a huge regression for a team with a QB drafted first overall. The Titans also brought two new receivers and drafted another two. Things needed to change and the Titans are now looking for a new head coach.

It’s time to have a conversation about head coach Brian Callahan. He was signed by the Titans for his offensive genius and creative approach to the game. However, Tennessee is all but genius or creative. “Yeah that was big, definitely a confidence booster for the offense, for a lot of players,” he said. “We need to do more of that style of play. We just want to go 1-0 every week,” Ridley continued. “That’s the motto right now, just try to go in there and get a win each week. Basically one play at a time, just let it come.”



In five games, Ridley has caught 15 passes on 34 targets, racking up 272 yards. The Titans appear to be improving, but they need to confirm it on the field.&nbsp;

“We’re trying to make it as easy on him as possible. Some of those throws he made at the end of the game were high-level difficulty throws and really good catches, but trying to make those be the throws that have to happen a couple of times a game and the rest of it be as easy as possible, and he’s figuring that part out as we go,” he said. “I think he really calmed down in the second half and just focused on putting his eyes where they’re supposed to be and just throwing the ball where it’s supposed to go and not trying to do anything other than that.“



Ward has gone 85 of 164 for 879 yards and two touchdowns against three interceptions and 19 sacks. The Titans are far away from contention, but they are eager to lay the ground to become a Super Bowl candidate.&nbsp;
