The Indiana Fever face the Phoenix Mercury tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, hoping to extend their winning streak after victories over the Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky. However, they’ll have to do it without All-Star guard Caitlin Clark.
Clark has been ruled out of tonight’s game as she continues to recover from a right groin injury. This will mark her fifth consecutive absence since injuring her leg on July 15 during the final minute of the Fever’s 85–77 win over the Connecticut Sun.
In their most recent update, the Fever confirmed that medical evaluations showed Clark had suffered “no additional injuries or damage.” However, the team is proceeding cautiously and has not provided a timeline for her return.
So far this season, Clark has missed 13 games—14 including tonight—due to four separate muscle injuries. It’s the first time she has been sidelined in her career, having never missed a game due to injury in college or during her first professional season, in which she was named Rookie of the Year.

Earlier this season, Clark missed five games with a left quad injury and four more with a left groin issue. She also sat out the Fever’s Commissioner’s Cup victory over the Minnesota Lynx on July 1, the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, and the 3-point contest held in Indianapolis.

Fever’s record and upcoming schedule
The Fever (14–12) are 6–7 this season without Clark but remain in playoff contention, currently sitting in sixth place in the standings. In her absence, guard Kelsey Mitchell has stepped up, even joining Clark as the only players in Fever history to record 35+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ three-pointers in a single game.
While Clark continues to rest and recover, the Fever will begin a four-game road trip on Friday, traveling to Dallas (Aug. 1), Seattle (Aug. 3), Los Angeles (Aug. 5), and Phoenix (Aug. 7) over the course of a week.
