One of the most highly anticipated stars of her generation is now officially making waves in the WNBA. Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever’s franchise centerpiece, opened the 2025 season with a statement win against the Chicago Sky. But before she even stepped onto the court, she may have received a symbolic passing of the torch from none other than Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

LeBron, along with other professional athletes across sports, has not been shy in voicing his admiration for Clark and her immediate impact on the league. As Clark enters just her second season in the WNBA, the attention and expectations surrounding her continue to skyrocket.

In a show of public support, James shared a message on Instagram alongside a photo of him with Clark: “Good luck and DO YOU per usual this season!!!” The caption included emojis of strength, structure, and a crown—raising the question: is LeBron unofficially crowning Clark as the new queen of women’s basketball?

It wouldn’t be a stretch. Clark’s meteoric rise has been nothing short of stunning. She’s shattered records at an unprecedented pace and drawn comparisons to NBA legends—most notably as the “female Stephen Curry.” And that’s more than a nickname—she literally went head-to-head with Curry in a three-point contest, holding her own. She’s a game-changer, and fans are just getting started watching her journey unfold.

Clark’s record-breaking feat

In the Fever’s season opener, Clark notched her third career triple-double in a dominant win over the Chicago Sky. According to StatMuse, in just her 41st career WNBA game, Clark is now responsible for nearly 20 percent of all triple-doubles in league history—a staggering figure.

She also became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach three triple-doubles, tying legendary forward Candace Parker for third-most all-time. Clark has made a habit of making history. She became the first rookie to post a triple-double in 2024, and by season’s end, led the entire league in assists.

Season opener recap

Indiana entered the game as eight-point favorites but quickly turned it into a rout. The Fever outscored the Sky in all four quarters, ultimately cruising to a 35-point win in their home opener.

While Clark understandably drew the headlines, nearly every Indiana star contributed in a big way. Reigning Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks in a dominant showing. Kelsey Mitchell and Natasha Howard each chipped in 15 points, while Lexie Hull added nine points and nine rebounds off the bench, just shy of a double-double.

The Fever’s performance signals a team on a mission—and with Clark leading the charge, the rest of the WNBA has been put on notice. The new era is here, and it’s shining bright in Indiana.
