Throughout the course of college basketball history, the Duke Blue Devils have always been one of the most respected, feared, and hated programs in all of basketball.

That’s partially because of their unmatched ability to recruit the top prospects in the nation, and partially because of their dominance during the Mike Krzyzewski era.

That’s why it wasn’t easy to step into his shoes and replace him when he left the program. With that in mind, the legendary coach tipped his hat to Jon Scheyer for the job he’s done there.

Coach K likes how Jon Scheyer has handled business

Yeah, you’re getting older teams the influx of international, young, international pro players to college, there you can win quicker in college now, and Jon Scheyer has done a great job here at Duke replacing me,” Coach K said. “And I’ve told him, I said, ‘I think you’ve done a better job than I would have done in the last three years with all the changes, because I would have always been saying stuff.”

Head coach John Scheyer of the Duke Blue Devils.

Scheyer has yet to lead the team to a national championship, something his legendary predecessor did five times throughout the course of his 42 years with the program.

Of course, he’s just getting started, and there will be a growing process. But so far, it’s safe to say that Scheyer has gotten off to a more-than-decent start to his head coaching tenure in Durham.
