The moment no Duke fan was looking for has finally happened. The prospect of getting Cooper Flagg on the team for another year is no more, as he’s declared for the 2025 NBA Draft.

Of course, one would have to be quite naive to think that there was even a slim chance that Flagg would be back in Durham next season, but now, that door is finally closed.

Flagg is firmly expected to be the first overall pick, for many reasons. With that in mind, Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer shared his honest thoughts on why he’s the best player in his class.

Jon Scheyer gushed about Cooper Flagg

“His highlights, his statistics, the ways he impacted the game on both ends of the floor, really in every category, was off the charts — as good of a freshman season that a guy has had here,” Scheyer said. “But to me the separator and the joy of coaching Cooper is the person he was every day, the teammate that he was — never about statistics or anything other than creating an environment and helping his team to win.”

In his lone season under Scheyer’s tutelage, Flagg posted averages of 18.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, leading his team in all major categories.

Now, the reigning ACC Player of the Year and National College Player of the Year will look to fulfill his destiny and continue his career as one of the faces of the NBA.
