The South Carolina Gamecocks had a diamond in the rough last season, and he has declared himself eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft. Nick Emmanwori has been one of the best safeties of the season and is set to be one of the top prospects. His dream of making it to the NFL comes with a tough warning for one particular quarterback, who is neither Patrick Mahomes nor Josh Allen.

In recent statements to the press, Emmanwori was asked about which players he admires in the league and if he has ever dreamed of being their teammate or, on the contrary, being on the opposite side as their rival.

Disregarding both the Chiefs’ and Bills’ quarterbacks, the talented defensive player revealed who he admires at that position, but made it clear that his arrival in the NFL will come with a few interceptions against him.

“Lamarvelous. A lot of dudes say guys like Pat Mahomes and other quarterbacks, but Lamar is kind of like the best quarterback to me. I have never seen a dude play quarterback and be that athletic and that efficient. I think he’s the best quarterback in the NFL right now. (If I pick him off) I think I’d beat him to the endzone.

Quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs and Lamar Jackson #8 of the Baltimore Ravens hug following the Chiefs win at M&T Bank Stadium on September 28, 2020 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Emmanwori is projected to be selected within the first picks of the first round, so his confidence is overflowing. It’s only a matter of weeks before we find out where he’ll land and if, ultimately, he will fulfill his dream of intercepting Lamar.

Mahomes and Allen, two of the best in the NFL

In recent years, a group of talented quarterbacks has dominated the NFL. The legacy left by Tom Brady and, why not, also by Aaron Rodgers, paved the way for talents like Mahomes, Allen, and Jackson, who have more than proven themselves at this important position.

Although in his statements, Emmanwori expressed his intentions to play against Lamar next season, it’s clear that when facing both Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, things won’t be easy for him. An interception against these superstars would undoubtedly be something epic.

One, a multiple Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, the other, named MVP of the latest regular season. It’s clear that the league is currently enjoying a golden era, given the quantity and quality of quarterbacks competing today.
