It goes without saying that the Houston Astros earned are the least-favorite team in all Major League Baseball right now and for very good reasons, as they were caught cheating and stealing signs en route to their 2017 World Series title.
The Astros were booed on the streets, people and players mocked them on social media, on the radio and television, and even on Spring Training, not to mention the occasional HBP in retaliation.
Houston barely made the expanded postseason pool while playing under .500 in the regular season. They lost their ace Justin Verlander due to injury and Gerrit Cole in free agency, and now they’re right back in the American League Division Series.
Carlos Correa Mocks Astros’ Haters
That’s why star shortstop Carlos Correa didn’t waste the chance to take a shot at those who want the Astros to suffer after sweeping the Minnesota Twins in the Wild-Card series on Wednesday:
“I know a lot of people are mad, I know a lot of people don’t want to see us here, but what are they going to say now? We’re a solid team, we play great baseball and we won a series on the road, in Minnesota, so what are they going to say now?” Correa said.
Carlos Correa Says The Astros Had A Tough Year
“We had a tough year since the start of Spring Training, but now it’s all about playing great baseball. I think we showed everybody we have a solid team. Minnesota, in a lot of brackets, was supposed to win the World Series. We swept a great team in Minnesota, and I think we deserve a lot of respect as a team. We played great baseball, our pitching staff did a great job, we got some clutch hits and we were able to win the series,” the Puerto Rican concluded.
Welp, if the Astros had a tough year, they brought it on themselves. You can’t cheat and expect people not to call you out for it, especially after watching their offensive numbers take a massive hit without their sign-stealing scheme. Now, they’ll have to get past the Athletics or White Sox in the ALDS.
