Juan Soto sends strong message about his struggles with Mets

Juan Soto knows he’s not performing at the level many expected in his first season with the New York Mets — and what’s more concerning is that he currently holds the team’s worst batting average with runners in scoring position at just .130, a clear weak spot in his 2025 campaign.

But Soto didn’t stay silent. After the Mets’ 4-2 win over the Rockies, he spoke candidly about his struggles, admitting that he knows his lack of production has impacted the team — but he’s confident things will turn around.

“I know I’ve been struggling, and I haven’t been there for them, but I will be… It’s a matter of time, we don’t know when it’s gonna come through, but I’m going to keep working,” Soto said. He delivered a strong performance in that game, going 4-for-4 with an RBI, raising his average to .229.

Carlos Mendoza backs Soto

Manager Carlos Mendoza came to Soto’s defense following the game, praising the Dominican star for his resilience and reaffirming his belief that Soto will work through his current slump.

“He’s going to get through it, he’s too good of a hitter. Obviously good night for him… it was good to see Soto finally getting some good results there,” Mendoza said after watching Soto notch his first hit since May 24.

Soto’s recent struggles

While the Mets have been struggling overall with runners in scoring position, Soto’s individual slump has been especially concerning. Over his last 10 MLB games — before the most recent game against the Rockies — he had just 4 hits in 38 at-bats, posting a .105 average with 1 run scored, 5 walks, and 11 strikeouts. He hasn’t hit a home run since May 9.
