The mood around the New York Mets took a hit Friday night after a humbling 10-2 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies. With the loss, New York ceded the top spot in the National League East, now sitting one game back of their division rivals.

The Mets’ pitching staff struggled across the board. Rookie starter Blade Tidwell lasted just 3.2 innings, and the bullpen collapsed soon after. In total, the Phillies racked up 13 hits and 10 runs — the most surrendered by New York in a single game this month.

In response, the team is making a change. Ahead of Saturday’s rematch, the Mets have called up right-handerTyler Zuber from Triple-A Syracuse, according to The Athletic’s Will Sammon, seeking to steady a bullpen that’s faltering at a pivotal point in the season.

Zuber joins bullpen amid urgent roster move

The 30-year-old Zuber has looked sharp in the minors recently, logging 9 strikeouts, 5 walks, and zero earned runs over his last 7.1 innings. His arrival gives manager Carlos Mendoza another right-handed option as the Mets try to stop a seven-game skid.

Zuber brings prior Major League experience with a 1–5 career record and a 5.13 ERA across 56 appearances, along with four holds. While not a long-term fix, he’s expected to provide short-term relief depth, especially with the team’s bullpen taxed after back-to-back high-scoring losses.

Rotation outlook: Mets vs. Phillies continues

New York will hand the ball to Griffin Canning (6-3, 3.80 ERA) for Saturday night’s contest, while Philadelphia counters with Mick Abel (2-0, 2.21 ERA). The series wraps up Sunday before the Mets head back to Citi Field.

From there, the schedule doesn’t let up. The Mets will host the Atlanta Braves, then head out for series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, and Kansas City Royals — with a key home showdown versus the New York Yankees in between.
