The New York Mets have officially lost Jose Siri for an extended period, marking what could be a difficult stretch for the team without him. Making matters worse, manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed the severity of Siri’s injury, announcing that the outfielder will be out for a while.
“He’s got a fractured tibia. The MRI shows the fracture. We’ve got to get more information before we know how long he’s going to be out, but he’s gonna be out for a while,” Mendoza told SNY after the game against the Twins.
Mendoza wasn’t surprised by the MRI results, even though Siri initially underwent an X-ray to assess the damage. “Not really,” he said. “The X-rays… with how much pain he was going through and watching him walk — he could barely — we knew… so we sent him for an MRI.”
Who Will Fill the Outfield Void Left by Jose Siri?
While options exist, Tyrone Taylor has initially stepped in to cover center field, a position he had slowly been commanding over Siri. The Dominican outfielder is now expected to head to the injured list, as manager Mendoza indicated just over 24 hours ago.
Obviously, the Mets will feel the loss of Jose Siri, who contributed a significant 18 home runs to the team’s offense last MLB season. However, Taylor is stepping up, and through nine games with the team, he’s hitting .176 with six hits, one run, and one RBI, posting a .435 OPS.

Tibia Fractures Require Significant Healing Time
According to OrthoVirginia, a leading clinic specializing in orthopedic care, physical therapy, and sports medicine, a tibia fracture can take anywhere from four to six months to heal completely. Therefore, depending on the severity of Siri’s injury, he is likely facing a multi-month absence from the team.
