The New York Mets return from the All-Star Break with high hopes of winning their first home series, leaning on three strong pitchers. One of them is Sean Manaea, who is set for his second start of the season and aiming for his first victory.
This marks the Mets’ first matchup of the year against the Reds. Before this home series, the Mets won two July series at Citi Field against the Brewers and Yankees, thanks to solid performances from their starting pitchers and bullpen. The team’s July record so far stands at 7-5.
Manaea started the game before the All-Star Break, with the Mets taking the series 2-1. However, the return of one of their top arms was challenging in a tight game that ended 2-3, with the Mets dropping four of six on the road.
Mets Starters vs. Reds
Mike Puma reported that the Mets will deploy Sean Manaea, Clay Holmes, and David Peterson for the three-game series against the Reds. Among them, Holmes has the best record at 8-4, but Peterson boasts the top ERA at 3.06 over 18 games.
Holmes, in 19 games, has proven to be one of the Mets’ best arms this season with a 3.31 ERA. Reds players he’s faced have hit just .227 in 22 at-bats, with five hits, two RBIs, and Holmes delivering seven strikeouts against them.
Peterson, meanwhile, has allowed seven hits in 23 at-bats against nine Reds batters, resulting in a .304 batting average, including one home run, three RBIs, and six walks. This series against the Reds will be the Mets’ second-to-last at home before facing the Angels. After those two home series, the Mets will travel to San Francisco and San Diego.
