Robbie Ray sends strong message after first loss with Giants

Robbie Ray did everything he could to prevent the San Francisco Giants‘ 3-1 defeat to the Kansas City Royals in the series opener. Following the game, he delivered a strong message, emphasizing his mental fortitude and the need to move forward.

Speaking to reporters after the contest, Ray told KNBR, “Honestly I felt really good with everything. That’s probably the best, maybe the sharpest, I’ve felt like my stuff has been all year.“ This performance marked the end of his 9-0 personal winning streak with the Giants.

Prior to his recent defeat, Robbie Ray had secured nine consecutive wins on the mound for the Giants against the Reds, Mariners, Yankees, Phillies, Brewers, Rangers, Rockies, Cubs, and Diamondbacks, showcasing his powerful arm in his second MLB season in San Francisco.

Ray Lacked Run Support in Loss

Following the 3-1 loss to the Royals, which snapped his winning streak, statistics indicated Ray had a strong outing. He pitched seven innings, allowing no earned runs despite six hits from opposing batters, and delivered seven strikeouts. Unfortunately, his teammates failed to produce at the plate to secure the win.

In that game against the Royals, Giants batters also struck out seven times. Only Sam Huff managed to contribute with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, by which point the Royals already held a 2-0 advantage. Ramos, Flores, and Lee each went 1-for-4.

Giants Situation

Despite the recent loss, the Giants maintain a solid 28-20 overall record, placing them third in the NL West, behind the Padres and Dodgers. The series against the Royals concludes their May homestand, after which they will embark on a road trip to face the Nationals, Tigers, and Marlins.
