The Buffalo Bills are once again aiming to position themselves as contenders in the upcoming NFL season—and why not dream of a potential Super Bowl run. Sean McDermott’s team secured the signing of a league star to support Josh Allen on this new journey, though it’s been confirmed that the newcomer won’t see any action until the start of minicamp.

After eight years with the Chargers, Joey Bosa has decided to make a change and will play the upcoming season in the AFC East—specifically in Orchard Park. However, his first reps with McDermott’s team may be slightly delayed.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport via his official account on X (formerly Twitter), Bills head coach announced that the talented defensive end pulled his calf and will be sidelined until training camp.

“Bills coach Sean McDermott tells reporters that newly signed edge Joey Bosa pulled his calf and will more than likely be sidelined until training camp. RB James Cook, seeking a new deal, is not present,” the insider reported via @RapSheet.

Cook’s notable absence from OTAs

As early activity begins to take shape across most NFL franchises, the Bills are no exception. Head coach Sean McDermott has already started outlining his game plan for what lies ahead.

Although coaching staffs usually aim to have the vast majority of their players available during OTAs, unfortunately, this wasn’t the case with James Cook. The team’s standout RB was notably absent.

The coach told the press he will wait for the running back’s availability, as the player’s contract situation with the front office remains unresolved.

“We’re staying in touch like you’d expect a player and a coach to do. James will be here when he’s ready to be here and we move forward,” the experienced head coach told the press.
