Earlier in the week, the New York Giants head coach, Brian Daboll, was coy when asked about who will play in the preseason game vs. Buffalo Bills. Also, Josh Allen won’t suit up, but who was going to be the quarterback for the G-Men? Will Russell Wilson play? Now we have an answer.
Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com reported that Russell Wilson will start the game vs. the Bills. Daboll also stated earlier in the week that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will also see some action. It is unclear if Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito will be a part of the game, though.
This will be the first time we see Wilson representing the Giants. He should be one of the biggest upgrades on the roster. After finally moving on from Daniel Jones, Wilson should improve this offense massively,
Will Malik Nabers play?
This one is a mystery. Per a video call, coach Daboll said, “I think it’s different for every team and I’ve done a lot of research in terms of teams the last few years and coaches, veteran coaches and what they’ve done and go back to, I worked for some people that have pretty success and how we did it.”
Daboll has not sat the starters fully on previous years, but he limits them. This means that, even if Nabers plays, he won’t be playing too many series. Daboll won’t risk the starters too much.
Daboll needs the stars healthy
After another disappointing season, many people around the NFL say both Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are on the hot seat. Last year, the Giants ended with a poor 3-14 record. In fact, after a promising start in the Big Apple, Daboll’s magic has been dimming down.
It all started in 2022, with a 9-7-1 record and a playoff win. But then, 2023 saw a 6-11 finish. This means, every season under Daboll, the Giants have regressed. Now, to be fair, it’s the first time he will have an above average quarterback, so if someone can save Daboll’s job, it’s Wilson.
