Jayden Daniels had a strong season with the Washington Commanders, and much of his success was due to the top-tier teammates he has played alongside. One of them, a veteran receiver who provided crucial support in tough moments, has now signed a one-year contract extension.
According to Tom Pelissero, the Commanders have re-signed Zach Ertz on a $6.25 million deal for the 2025 season. His new contract includes incentives that could push its total value to $9 million.
During the 2024 season, Ertz played 17 games alongside Daniels, recording 66 receptions on 91 targets and scoring seven touchdowns—the second-highest touchdown total of his 12-year career. The veteran tight end, best known for his long tenure with the Eagles, proved to be a key contributor to Commanders‘ offense.
Among all Commanders players, Terry McLaurin led the team with 82 receptions, but Ertz was second, underscoring his importance to the franchise. His contributions played a vital role in helping the team reach the NFL playoffs.
How Much Did Zach Ertz Earn in His First Commanders Contract?
In his first season with Washington, Ertz signed a one-year, $3 million deal, which included a $750,000 signing bonus. Before that, he had inked a three-year, $31.6 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, though he was never able to fully showcase his abilities with that team.
Jayden Daniels Benefits from Veteran Experience
While Daniels has a strong arm, the presence of experienced players like Zach Ertz is crucial for his confidence. Knowing he has reliable targets makes a difference, and Ertz, with a 63.7% catch rate in his first season with Washington, exemplifies that reliability. That percentage also marked the highest catch rate of his career.
