Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills once again fell short of a Super Bowl appearance with a loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL playoffs. Patrick Mahomes and company, however, were completely outplayed by Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.

Recently, one of Allen’s teammates claimed that Buffalo would’ve made things harder for the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. During an appearance on ‘The Pivot,’ Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins called out the performance displayed by Mahomes‘ Chiefs.

We would’ve put on a better show in the Super Bowl; we would’ve put on a better show,” Dawkins said, as quoted by Bills Wire. “I am part of my team, so I think my team is gonna put on the best show regardless of anybody performing. We are the ones. We’re raw. Our quarterback is raw; our line is raw; d-line is raw. We put on the best show and perform at a high level; we would’ve had a better chance, in my eyes.”

Eagles did what the Bills couldn’t against the Chiefs

Dawkins had a great year protecting Allen, being rewarded with a fourth consecutive selection for the Pro Bowl. The Bills allowed only 14 sacks during the 2024 NFL regular season, but in the end, it didn’t prove the difference.

Dion Dawkins #73 and Josh Allen #17 of the Buffalo Bills celebrate after scoring a touchdown in the second quarter against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on December 15, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan.

Mahomes and the Chiefs scored enough points to gain the upper hand with a 32-29 win in the 2025 AFC Championship Game, though Hurts‘ Eagles eventually exposed big problems in Kansas City’s offensive line.

Eagles dominated the Chiefs, whose starters had only lost to Bills in 2024

Struggling against an Eagles defense that stole the show in New Orleans, Mahomes took six sacks and turned the ball over three times as Philadelphia went to halftime leading 24-0.

The Chiefs‘ attempt to come back was too late, as the Eagles ended up winning the Super Bowl with a 40-22 victory. It was, without any doubt, the toughest loss for Kansas City in the season, and it happened on the biggest of stages.

Until that game, only the Bills had beaten Mahomes and the Chiefs’ starters in 2024, with Allen and company claiming a 30-21 win in Week 11 of the NFL regular season. Whether the Bills would’ve put up a fight against the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX will remain a big “what if,” but Diokins has reasons to believe that Buffalo could’ve stood in Hurts and company’s way.
