If Aaron Rodgers doesn’t sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mason Rudolph as the team’s starting quarterback continues to gain momentum among Mike Tomlin and teammates, according to the latest report from Tom Pelissero.
“At some point, that might be the plan. At some point, if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t go, there is a scenario where it’s Mason Rudolph and you draft somebody and you go in and you see what happens. They won games with Mason Rudolph. The best that offense has functioned, since Ben (Roethlisberger), was probably down the stretch in 2023. George Pickens loves Mason Rudolph. Why? Because he throws the ball down the field and gives him opportunities to go get it.”
In the 2023 season, Rudolph took over the starting role after Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky struggled. The Steelers won their last three games, qualified for the playoffs, and were then eliminated by the Buffalo Bills.

Additionally, in the upcoming draft, Tomlin and Omar Khan are projected to select a quarterback in one of the first three rounds. In that scenario, Rudolph would serve as the bridge player to develop the young prospect, who could be Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Will Howard, Jalen Milroe, or a surprise pick.
