Jordan Love managed to lead the Green Bay Packers to the playoffs in the 2024 NFL season, but the team lacked certain key elements in their overall performance to truly contend for a Super Bowl. Head coach Matt LaFleur is well aware of this and has given the green light, along with the organization, to make changes to the coaching staff.
The offseason is moving quickly, and the Packers are already set on building a strong team around Love, who delivered an impressive performance in what was his second-best season as a pro, throwing for 3,389 yards and contributing 25 touchdowns.
In that vein, the Packers have announced several additions and promotions to the coaching staff led by LaFleur for the 2025 NFL season. First, DeMarcus Covington will join Green Bay as the defensive line and run game coordinator.
Among other minor changes, Luke Getsy joins the Packers as a senior assistant, Cory Harkey as special teams quality control coach, Jeremiah Kolone as offensive assistant, Jeff Koonz as defensive assistant, and Jamael Lett as defensive quality control coach.
Internal promotions at the Packers
In addition to LaFleur’s new coaching staff additions, the Packers have promoted several members within the organization to more prominent roles. Sean Duggan has been elevated to linebackers coach, Sean Mannion to quarterbacks coach, and Connor Lewis has been named passing game coordinator and game management specialist.
A help for Love’s game
The coaching staff changes made by the Packers for 2025 are aimed at further accelerating Jordan Love’s development as the starting quarterback. A key move is the promotion of Sean Mannion, a former NFL quarterback for nearly a decade. Now he has the direct responsibility of refining Love’s decision-making, accuracy, and field vision.
