With the 2025 NFL Draft around the corner, many fans are wondering if the Los Angeles Rams will select a new quarterback. Now, head coach Sean McVay has addressed the matter and sent a clear message to Matthew Stafford.
When the Rams acquired Matthew Stafford in 2021, the franchise’s direction changed instantly. The veteran quarterback had a stellar debut season, leading the team to a Super Bowl LVI victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, recent seasons haven’t been as successful for either the team or Stafford. As a result, speculation has grown around whether the Rams should bring in a new quarterback—and McVay has now weighed in on the situation.
Sean McVay reveals if the Rams will draft a QB in 2025
The quarterback position has been a rollercoaster for the Rams in recent years. After failing to find postseason success with Jared Goff, the team traded for Matthew Stafford, who immediately delivered a championship.
But expectations for a dynasty quickly faded. Stafford’s recurring injuries have impacted the team’s performance, raising questions about his long-term future in Los Angeles.
This offseason, rumors swirled about a potential trade involving Stafford. Instead, the Rams extended his contract, signaling their commitment to him for at least two more seasons. Even so, the need for a long-term plan at the position remains.
While several mock drafts project the Rams to use a high-round pick on a quarterback, McVay has made it clear that he’s not focused on this year’s QB class. In a recent statement, the coach admitted he hasn’t thoroughly evaluated any quarterback prospects for the 2025 Draft.
“I think that’s I think that’s unlikely,” McVay said on potentially drafting a QB this year, via SI.com. “I’ll be honest with you, I haven’t done a whole lot of work on the quarterbacks. I feel really good about where our quarterback room is, even though we’re not naive to the fact that Matthew hopefully got a couple more years that he wants to play. But he’s also learned the right to be able to say, ‘after this year, hey, I’m gonna, I’m gonna go ahead and hang them up.’ I’m hopeful that that’s not the case, but I haven’t done enough work to really have an educated opinion on that. That’s not something that I would see us going, but maybe not.”
Who are the Rams’ quarterbacks for the 2025 season?
With Stafford locked in for two more seasons, the Rams appear confident he can still lead them to another Super Bowl. Behind him is Jimmy Garoppolo, who signed a one-year extension this offseason and offers a solid backup option.
Also in the mix is Stetson Bennett, the former Georgia standout who many believe has the tools to eventually become the team’s starter once Stafford retires.
