The Minnesota Vikings were involved in many rumors about Aaron Rodgers as a possible alternative in case J.J. McCarthy didn’t convince them as the starting quarterback.
In the end, before the start of training camp, Kevin O’Connell gave full confidence to the Michigan university prospect, closing the door on Rodgers despite the great friendship he has with the veteran.
Aaron signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers aiming to win another Super Bowl in his career, and the Vikings are starting a new chapter after Sam Darnold left for the Seattle Seahawks. However, not everything seems to be going well for O’Connell and McCarthy.
Who will be Vikings starting quarterback?
J.J. McCarthy will be the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, but according to a surprising report from Colin Cowherd, there is concern within Kevin O’Connell’s coaching staff after what they have seen in training camp.
“There is this almost protective bubble or sort of an elevation of what he’s doing and it’s not what I’m hearing. That there are real concerns from last year on. What I’m hearing on J.J. McCarthy would not instill confidence.”
Dianna Russini supported this hypothesis in which the Vikings would be leaking positive information about McCarthy when, in reality, things may not have gone so well in the first practices leading up to the preseason.
“It sounds like it’s up and down. There’s some good, there’s some bad. There is a lot of lifting up of J.J. McCarthy. Do I think J.J. McCarthy is wowing everyone at training camp? No, I don’t. I think he’s fine. I’m not bought in all the way.”
