Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins hope to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 NFL season, which is why the team isn’t done making moves. The latest word on the street is that the Fins are targeting a former Super Bowl champion who also played with Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are interested and have been in contact with veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas, who hit free agency this offseason.

Douglas, 30, spent the last two seasons with Allen on the Buffalo Bills, having made 15 starts in 2024. Before that, he made a name for himself on the Green Bay Packers in 2021 and 2022, when Rodgers was still the team’s quarterback.

A third-round pick out of West Virginia in 2017, Douglas spent his first three years in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, with whom he celebrated the Super Bowl LII victory over Tom Brady’s New England Patriots.

Rasul Douglas #31 of the Buffalo Bills takes the field prior to playing the Denver Broncos during the AFC Wild Card Playoffs at Highmark Stadium on January 12, 2025 in Orchard Park, New York.

Douglas is an eight-year veteran who made 80 starts in 120 appearances in the NFL, boasting 19 career interceptions and three forced fumbles. His profile could be a great fit for the Dolphins, considering that Tagovailoa and company might lose Jalen Ramsey.

Dolphins expect to trade Jalen Ramsey

Earlier this month, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that Dolphins and Ramsey are set to mutually explore trade options ahead of the 2025 season, which means that Miami could use a CB to play on the outside.

After a couple of weeks of discussions between ourselves internally and Jalen and our representative we decided it was in the best interest of all parties to move forward,” Dolphins GM Chris Grier said before the 2025 NFL Draft. “These discussions aren’t done quickly or made lightly. At the end of the day, Jalen did not ask for a trade. After numerous conversations, it was best to move forward.

Other free agent CBs available for Miami

Even though the Dolphins still have to find a new home for Ramsey, it appears that the front office is already exploring potential additions at CB, with Douglas among their options.

Jackson, however, notes that the former Bills CB isn’t the only player the Dolphins reached out recently. Apart from Douglas, the likes of Asante Samuel Jr, James Bradberry, Stephon Gilmore, and Shaquil Griffin are also in the open market.

While the addition of a new CB may not impact Tagovailoa directly, the Dolphins quarterback will definitely benefit from a strong defense. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if Miami makes a move with Ramsey on his way out.
