With Aaron Rodgers visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday, the New York Giants have decided to sign another quarterback—but it’s not Russell Wilson.

It has been a very busy offseason in the NFL. Many clubs will have a new starting quarterback in the 2025 season, and the Giants are one of them.

New York parted ways with Daniel Jones last year. Rumors suggested that the NFC East club was interested in signing a veteran quarterback for the upcoming campaign, and they have just found one.

Giants sign veteran quarterback for 2025 season; not Rodgers or Wilson

During the 2024 season, the Giants parted ways with Daniel Jones in one of the most shocking moves in recent years. The club had given him a lucrative contract extension in 2023, but he failed to meet expectations and was released midseason.

The NFC East club ended the campaign with Drew Lock as the starter. Nevertheless, reports suggested that they were interested in acquiring a veteran quarterback for 2025 to mentor the rookie they are expected to draft this year.

Rumors indicated that the club was eyeing Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers as potential options. Wilson even visited the team earlier this week but left the facilities without receiving an offer.

On Friday, Aaron Rodgers, who was also on their radar, visited the Steelers. With those two options off the table, the Giants turned to another veteran free agent to lead the team this year.

Jameis Winston, former quarterback of the Cleveland Browns

The New York Giants have found their experienced quarterback for the upcoming campaign. The NFC East club has signed Jameis Winston to a 2-year, $8 million deal, seemingly closing the door on the arrivals of Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson.

Jameis Winston spent the 2024 season with the Browns, filling in for Deshaun Watson after his torn Achilles. Seeking a new team for 2025, Winston found the Giants’ offer irresistible.

“Start spreading the neWs,” Winston wrote on X, referencing the iconic song “New York, New York,” written by John Kander and Fred Ebb, confirming his signing with the NFC East club.
