Russell Wilson is ready to elevate the New York Giants into a new phase. However, he needs people to catch his dimes and make plays. One weapon of his is coming into his second NFL year ready to exploit.
Theo Johnson was a rookie tight end for the Giants. However, his year wasn’t that great. He only had 29 catches and 331 yards. He scored one touchdown, but it feels like he was finding his rhythm until an injury limited his season.
Speaking on the Giants Huddle podcast, Johnson said, “I know I’m going to have a full offseason to kind of prepare and figure things out. I definitely felt like I was catching on at the right time. Unfortunately, the injury kind of put a hold on that.” However, Johnson says the adaptation period is over and he is ready to ball.
Theo Johnson could be a very welcomed surprise on offense
“I think that’s the biggest goal for me is prioritizing my health and wellness and making sure that I’m available and consistent throughout 17 games,” Johnson said. He is the number one tight end on the team’s depth chart.
While Malik Nabers will be the first aerial threat on the team, Johnson could be an escape vaulve for Wilson. If he’s able to stay healthy, he could become a breakout star for the Giants.
What are the Giants’ moves this offseason?
The Giants have been busy. They brought two veteran quarterbacks like Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. The G-Men also brought Zach Pascal, Montrell Washington and Lil’Jordan Humphrey as rotational pieces in the receiver’s corp. In the NFL draft, they selected quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo.
Defensively, they have new faces like Jeremiah Ledbetter, Roy Robertson-Harris, and Chauncey Golston for the trenches. The linebacker Abdul Carter was the Giants’ first-round pick as well. In the secondary, Jevon Holland and Paulson Adebo will elevate the team’s form.
