The Tennessee Titans drafted quarterback Cam Ward as the number one overall pick in the last NFL draft for one reason. However, in a turn for the worse, one of his key weapons won’t be playing alongside the quarterback for quite a while.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, running back Tyjae Spears is expected miss “a few weeks due to his sprained ankle, per HC Brian Callahan. It means that Spears’ preseason is over and the team will hope to have him back by the start of the regular season.”
This is bad news for the team as Spears was thriving this preseason. The running back was also creating good chemistry with Ward. Spears didn’t get huge usage last year. However, he was making big moves towards a more prominent role on this offense.
Spears will lose momentum
Spears is not the first running back on the Titans depth chart. Still, he was seen by Callahan as the most versatile of them all. However, he will now skip a beat as Tony Pollard continues to establish himself as the undisputed RB1.
Pollard had the most scrimmage yards on the team last season with 1317. Spears was third on that department with 536. Both scored five touchdowns, which ties them for second most on the team behind wideout Nick Westbrook-Ihine.
Cam Ward’s weapons are sneaky good
Spears might lose some time in the regular season, but he’ll be back. If you add all the relevant skill players on this team, there is no reason to believe the Titans shouldn’t have a good offense.
Cam Ward will share the offense with:
- RB: Tony Pollard
- RB: Tyjae Spears
- WR: Calvin Ridley
- WR: Tyler Lockett
- WR: Van Jefferson
- TE: Chig Okonkwo
