Tom Brady speaks up on the New England Patriots' poor start

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick fought side by side for two decades and led the New England Patriots to9 Super Bowl appearances and 6 Vince Lombardi trophies, orchestrating the most dominant dynasty in modern NFL history.

However, the knock on Brady was always that he was just a ‘system quarterback’ and that anybody would thrive under Bill Belichick’s command. And now that Brady decided to leave and join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it seems like that narrative was way off.

Thus far, the Brady-led Buccaneers are 6-2 with him having an MVP caliber year (2,189 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions) while the Patriots are 2-5 and haven’t had a passing touchdown in the past three weeks.

So, when asked about the New England Patriots’ poor start to the season, Brady simply took the high road and didn’t want to read much into it, claiming that he doesn’t wish anyone to perform badly:

“I wish everybody the best all the time. I don’t ever wish for anyone to not perform at their best,” Brady said in the press conference ahead of his Sunday Night Football clash vs. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

While there’s no denying Bill Belichick’s greatness as one of the smartest masterminds in the history of the game, all those who undermined Brady throughout his career are now eating their words.

It’s still early to tell and plenty of things can happen until Brady’s 2-year deal with the Bucs runs out before people come to the conclusion that Belichick needed him more than Brady needed Belichick. Whether that’s true or not is not for us to tell but what we can be sure of is that he wasn’t a system quarterback.
