As the grass-court tune-ups for Wimbledon wrapped up, Taylor Fritz stole the spotlight by claiming his fourth title at the Eastbourne International, becoming the most successful men’s player in the tournament’s history.
Fritz, currently ranked No. 5 in the ATP rankings, secured the ATP 250 trophy with a 7-5, 6-1 win over fellow American Jenson Brooksby. The victory added to his titles in 2019, 2022, and 2024, cementing his dominance at Eastbourne. With the win, Fritz also pulled ahead 2–1 in his career head-to-head against Brooksby.
“I don’t know what to say, there’s something about Eastbourne. I just love it here. Every year, I come here, and it’s such a good week,” Fritz said after the final. “This year, it’s been different, and I’ve had to fight through my matches. I feel like I’ve really upped my level”.
The win marks Fritz’s second grass-court title of the season, following his triumph at the Stuttgart Open where he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final. With back-to-back titles, he becomes the first player since Matteo Berrettini in 2022 to win two grass-court tournaments heading into Wimbledon.
In doing so, Fritz also became the second active player with the most grass-court titles on tour, trailing only Novak Djokovic, who owns seven Wimbledon crowns and won Eastbourne in 2017.
Fritz confident ahead of Wimbledon opener
With strong momentum from his recent victories, Fritz enters Wimbledon as one of the in-form contenders. He is set to open his campaign against France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on Monday, June 30, in what promises to be a tough first-round matchup.
Still, Fritz believes the Eastbourne win provides the perfect boost heading into the year’s third Grand Slam. “I’m going to be ready to go. I’d much rather go into the tournament with confidence and a title,” he explained.
