The Chicago Sky face the Golden State Valkyries tonight at Wintrust Arena. Tyler Marsh’s squad is desperate for a win to snap a six-game losing streak that has put their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy. However, they’ll have to manage without Angel Reese.
Reese is sidelined for tonight’s game as she continues to deal with a back injury that previously caused her to miss two games. Although she returned to action against the Mystics on Tuesday—posting 22 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists—she has since suffered a setback.
“I just try to do whatever I can for the team,” Reese said. “Like I said, it wasn’t great, first game back from a two-game absence. So, it was rough for me—still figuring it out and getting my groove back.”
Reese added, “But I think I tried to do as best as I could tonight: stay out of foul trouble, not get a tech, and just do whatever I can to help this team and stay on the court.” She remains one technical foul away from a one-game suspension.

Meanwhile, the Sky are dealing with a slew of injuries. In addition to Reese, Ariel Atkins remains out with a leg issue, while Michaela Onyenwere (knee) and Hailey Van Lith (ankle) are still listed as questionable.
As a result, the expected starting lineup for tonight includes Rachel Banham, Kia Nurse, Elizabeth Williams, Maddy Westbeld, and Kamilla Cardoso. Cardoso has been a bright spot for the team, coming off her fourth double-double of the season in the game against the Mystics.
Chicago Sky’s playoff chances look bleak
This season, the Sky have won just seven of their 26 games, despite expectations that the team could take a step forward under Marsh’s leadership. Last year, they already struggled offensively, ranking 11th out of 12 teams, though they managed to finish eighth in defensive rating. This season, however, they’ve fallen to 12th overall.
Mathematically, the Sky still have a shot at the playoffs. After Tuesday’s loss to the Mystics, they are ranked 12th in the WNBA standings, six games behind the eighth and final playoff spot.
