Gervonta “Tank” Davis isn’t one to hold back his opinions, and when it comes to the upcoming fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, he’s made his feelings clear.
Following Canelo’s dominant win over William Scull to reclaim the undisputed super-middleweight title, the stage was set for one of the biggest bouts in boxing history. Canelo’s victory marked him as the first fighter to capture all four major belts in the super-middleweight division during the ‘four-belt era’.
With the September 12 date for the clash at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas officially confirmed, the boxing world is abuzz. However, it’s Davis who has added fuel to the fire with his candid take on the fight, suggesting that Crawford‘s motivations may not be entirely about glory. In a media scrum, Davis didn’t mince words, stating that he believes Crawford is in it “for the money.”
Tank Davis on Crawford’s motivations
“Crawford needs the money. I’m telling you… That’s why he says he doesn’t like me, cause I speak real (expletive),” Davis remarked according to ES News, adding an edge to his take on the fight.

When questioned about the potential impact of the weight difference, as Crawford moves up two weight classes for the showdown, Davis was equally blunt. “I ain’t trying to convince y’all that he can beat Canelo! He’s a good fighter, but… Bro, I would say smaller fighters are always better than bigger fighters, cause they know how to move and things like that.”

The stakes: A historic night for both fighters
Should Terence Crawford overcome Canelo Alvarez, the Omaha native would achieve legendary status, becoming a five-division world champion. It would also make him the first male boxer to win the undisputed title in three different weight classes.

However, standing in his way is one of the sport’s most dominant figures. Canelo, who has firmly established his legacy at 168lbs, has made history with wins over Gennady Golovkin, Jermell Charlo, and Callum Smith. Now, he aims to add Crawford to an already impressive list.
