Cameron Boozer says Duke is being overlooked

Duke Blue Devils freshman Cameron Boozer will try to emulate and improve what another high-profile freshman did last year under Jon Scheyer.

The forward will take over from Cooper Flagg, who became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, hoping to make such a strong impression to get close to Flagg’s selection.

But first, he’ll have to play for his father’s alma mater. After a busy offseason, perhaps the Blue Devils aren’t considered as dangerous as they were with Flagg, but Boozer believes people will stop sleeping on his team once the regular season is underway.

“I think we have a special group,” Boozer said in an interview with ESPN. “We’re very overlooked right now, but once the season starts, that’ll change for sure. Playing hard, defending, competing, we’ll be in a position to get to the Final Four like they did last year. We have a huge chip on our shoulder. We know we have the talent and the team to be the best in the country. And I truly believe we will be.”

Boozer is a five-star forward with high expectations ahead of his freshman campaign. As he prepares for his freshman season, Cameron Boozer has been in the gym, working on his game.

A video shared by the Blue Devils’ official X account shows the 18-year-old player working on his long-range shots. He wasn’t known for being a shooter in high school and adding a 3-pointer to his offensive arsenal will open up many new doors for him and his team.

Boozer was named Gatorade National Player of the Year twice, which only added to the expectations surrounding him.
