For years, Paige Bueckers has been the leader and best player for the UConn Huskies. That’s still the case this season, but it won’t continue to be like that for much longer.

Bueckers and the Huskies are striving to win the national championship for the first time in her college basketball career. That’s also because she won’t have more opportunities to do so.

Recently, Huskies star Azzi Fudd shut down all speculation about Bueckers’ future, putting an end to all the rumors by saying that she will declare for the WNBA Draft.

Paige is going to be gone, so I can’t rely on her to speak and do all that [leadership] stuff, on and off the court,” Fudd said. “I will have to be in that position.”

Of course, this isn’t much of a surprise, as she’s projected to be the first player off the board. Nevertheless, there were rumors about her desire not to play for the Dallas Wings, the team currently in possession of that selection.

Also, maybe not winning the national championship could convince her to return to college for another season. However, at this point, it seems that this possibility is very unlikely.
