While injuries prevented them from dominating together for a long time, Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers spent three full seasons together with the UConn Huskies.
They finally got over the hump in 2025, leading Geno Auriemma’s team to the National Championship and giving us a glimpse of what it could’ve been like if they had stayed healthy for those three years.
As such, and given their close friendship, it’s safe to say that few people know Bueckers better than Fudd. That’s why, while in attendance at the Dallas Wings-Atlanta Dream game, she shed light on the most underrated aspect of her game.
Azzi Fudd says Paige Bueckers is an underrated defender
“I feel like Paige is a sneaky good defender,” Fudd told CBS Sports. “I also think she’s an incredible passer, and I feel like that’s something that was kind of looked over a little bit last year. These last couple of games, she had what, 10 assists last game, I think? To see her facilitate like she can, it’s going to be fun.”

The Wings are struggling as expected, going 0-4 to start the season. Bueckers, however, has been unfazed by the pros, averaging 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game on 53% shooting and 41% from three.

As for Fudd, she will now be asked to do a lot of heavy lifting without her star teammate on campus. Who knows? She might even end up joining forces with her in the WNBA in 2026.
