“We work on end-of-game situations in practice and expect our players to be good at them, and I was not good for the last 30 seconds today. I feel like I failed these guys. For 39 and a half minutes, they out-played them. They were up four.”

<h2>Iron sharpens iron</h2>



Vanderbilt is looking to shock the entire college basketball landscape with a deep run in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/march-madness">March Madness</a>, though their spot in the tournament hasn’t been confirmed yet. Regardless, as the Commodores walked out of their toughest stretch of the season with revamped hope and confidence, Byington believes his team is built to win in March.

“Like I said, six straight-ranked teams. Nobody else is going through that besides the SEC,” Coach Byington added. “What that does is it kind of figures out how strong you are, how good you are, and you better learn along the way. And these guys are doing it.”



<h2>Finish strong</h2>



Vanderbilt will close out the season with games versus Arkansas and at Georgia, which will have huge implications for the Commodores in the SEC tournament. Currently sitting at 10th overall in the SEC, wins over the Razorbacks and Bulldogs could lift Vandy over its competitors and into a first-round bye seed in the conference tournament.

The Kentucky Wildcats couldn’t take down the number one ranked program in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">college basketball</a>, as they fell 94-78 to the Auburn Tigers in a ranked matchup at Rupp Arena. After the deflating defeat, head coach Mark Pope made something clear about Bruce Pearl’s Tigers.



The Wildcats missed a pivotal chance to shock the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> with a statement victory over the No. 1 program in the nation. After the loss, Kentucky fell back to a .500 SEC record, and could drop further down in the AP rankings as they were dismantled by the visiting Tigers.



While the defeat stings and will linger in Lexington, Coach Pope knows better than to cry over spilled milk. As the team shifts its focus to the next challenge, he made an honest statement about <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/auburn">Auburn</a>.



“Right now, they are the best team in the country,” Kentucky coach Mark Pope said, per On3. “They punished us tonight, for sure.”

Auburn got off to a hot start, going on a 12-0 run early in the game, which made the night much easier for Pearl’s side. The first half ended 49-34 in Auburn’s favor, and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kentucky">Kentucky</a> couldn’t trim the lead in the second half.

<h2>Pope praises Pearl and his staff</h2>



Kentucky was hoping to build off of their nail-biting victory over Oklahoma, but Auburn proved to be too much for the Wildcats to hold off at Rupp Arena. After the game, Pope credited the Tigers for their sensational performance, for which he had no answers.



“It’s a real credit to their guys, to their players, and a real credit to coach [Bruce] Pearl and his staff because they do a lot of switching on the fly. There is a lot of communication on the fly.

The Duke Blue Devils landed the top recruit in the nation when they got <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a>. He’s been the most talked about player in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> for a year, and for very good reasons.



Flagg plays hard on both ends of the floor. He creates for others, scores from all three level, and has already held his own against <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> competition in a scrimmage vs. Team USA.



Add his youth, efficiency, and work ethic to the mix, and that’s why former NBA GM John Hollinger believes no one else has a shot at even sniffing the top pick in this year’s draft.



<h2>No one can take down Cooper Flagg’s top spot</h2>



“Can anyone push Cooper Flagg for No. 1? No,” Hollinger wrote. “OK, but what if … No. Seriously, just … no. Given his late-December birthday, Flagg is likely to be the youngest player in the 2025 draft and yet is almost certainly the best draft-eligible player right now. Among power-conference players, he has the best PER of any non-center and the best BPM of any player except Auburn’s Johni Broome, who is nearly half a decade older.”

<h2>Flagg is as close to perfect as it is as a prospect</h2>



Of course, no player is perfect, and Flagg isn’t the exception to the rule. Even so, Hollinger doesn’t think there’s anything about his game that should scare off any team:



“A real nitpicker would say Flagg’s rates of rebounds and blocks are unexceptional. Not bad, just not remarkable in the way the rest of his line is. Some concerns remain about the quality of his deep shooting and the extent of his prowess as an on-ball shot-creator. But, c’mon … Flagg is by far the top prospect in this draft,” added Hollinger.

Of course, there are no guarantees when it comes to the NBA Draft, and we’ve seen projected stars fail over and over. But barring a shocking turn of events, Flagg should be a perennial All-Star.

The Duke Blue Devils have had their fair share of superstar prospects in their ranks. However, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg </a>must be one of the most unique in terms of skills and size.



The Maine native is a guard trapped in a big man’s body. His ability to pull up over every defender on the court translates to the pros, and he’s also a very good defensive player.



That’s why even the opposition has no choice but to tip their hats to him. That happened again when UCLA coach Mick Cronin used one big word to describe him: Generational.

<h2>Cooper Flagg is the ultimate stat-sheet stuffer</h2>



Everybody raves about offense in today’s game, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, that makes plenty of players do not take pride in playing defense anymore, but that’s not the case with Flagg.

So far, he’s averaged 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.1 blocks, and 1.4 three-pointers per game on 49/37/82 shooting splits. He’s the most well-rounded prospect in the nation.

For most of the year, all the talk about <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> has centered around three players: Duke’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a>, and Rutgers’ star duo of Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey.



Harper and Bailey have gone back and forth as the potential second-overall pick in the 2025 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA</a> Draft, with Flagg most likely being the first guy taken off the board.



However, former NBA GM John Hollinger isn’t so sure anymore. In his latest mock draft, he has Baylor star guard/forward V.J. Edgecombe as a serious threat to take down Harper at 2.



<h2>V.J. Edgecombe is climbing the NBA ladder</h2>



“Edgecombe got off to a slow start but has stepped things up markedly in Big 12 play, even though the schedule in that league is a brutal gauntlet. I watched Baylor’s home loss to Arizona a week ago, when Edgecombe scored 24 points while constantly getting to the rim, and it’s that first-step explosiveness that has him so high on draft radars,” wrote Hollinger.

The former general manager believes that his defensive prowess, instincts, and physical tools make him an enticing prospect, perhaps even more than the aforementioned Harper. 



“Throw in that he’s an athletic, ball-hawking defender with a phenomenal steal rate (3.8 swipes per 100 possessions, something the analytics models will love), and Edgecombe has built a real case to go second,“ continued Hollinger.

Of course, this is one of those cases where it seems like you just can’t go wrong with either one of the prospects you choose, and it’ll be interesting to see how this situation plays out.

That’s why, after scoring a career-high 24 points against Vanderbilt, coach Dawn Staley praised her for her improved shot selection and decision-making, as she’s making the most of her speed and physicality as opposed to settling for threes.

With the frenzy for the ever-insane March Madness growing, NBA Hall of Famer and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/auburn">Auburn Tigers</a> legend Charles Barkley dropped a bold statement about Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats.



The deep-rooted rivalry between the two schools in the state of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/alabama">Alabama</a> dates back long before Barkley’s days in The Plains. The Tigers and Crimson Tide can’t stand each other, and that animosity isn’t fading anytime soon.



Alabama has experienced great success in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/march-madness">March Madness</a> since Nate Oats arrived in Tuscaloosa in 2019. Last season, the Crimson Tide reached the Final Four but fell to the UConn Huskies in the NCAA National Semifinal. In the previous three years, Bama made it to the Sweet Sixteen, although they advanced past the Regional Semifinal only once.



However, Barkley—whose ties to Auburn make him disdain anything good that happens in Tuscaloosa—has never been a fan of Oats’ hiring at Alabama. Recently, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a> legend made a big admission about Oats and the Tide.

James took to X to mock Gottlieb after getting his third win of the season to take his record to 3-24. He claimed that it was ‘earned not given,’ referring to his own motto, and that Gottlieb deserved a lot of credit. 



Gottlieb didn’t address their beef back then. Now, in an interview with CBS Sports, he’s unleashed his wrath against the Los Angeles Lakers star, calling him ‘sad and petty.’

<h2>Gottlieb called LeBron James a bad basketball parent</h2>



Of course, it’s not like Gottlieb didn’t go to great lengths to get on James’ bad side. Late in November, he called the four-time <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NBA </a>champion a ‘bad basketball parent’ over the way he handled Bronny James’ arrival to the league:



“This toxicity is based upon one guy. And LeBron is a good father, is a good parent, but he’s a bad basketball parent because he’s making people elevate his kid to a level that his skill is not close to being at,” Gottlieb said in his show.

Gottlieb has been overly critical of Bronny in the past, and while the young guard hasn’t done much to defend his case as an NBA player, it only makes sense that his father wants nothing to do with one of his biggest critics.

The Duke Blue Devils are looking like one of the strongest teams in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a>. People rave about <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/cooper-flagg" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cooper Flagg</a>, and rightfully so, but they’re much more than that.



Jon Scheyer’s team just thrashed the Miami Hurricanes with a 97-60 win. That loss dropped Miami to 2-15 in ACC play, and it added even more drama to an underwhelming season.



Moreover, this game may have given Miami a glimpse of their new coach. Jai Lucas, one of Duke’s top assistants, is reportedly the leading candidate to take the reins of the program next season. If that’s the case, coach Scheyer wishes him the best.

“Jai is a special coach,” Scheyer said. “We’ve been through a lot together for three years. He’s everything you could want. He’s a great coach, bottom line. Our friendship will always be there no matter what.”

Lucas has been a part of Duke’s coaching staff for three years now after a two-year tenure with John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats. He also has experience as a Director of Basketball Operations.

That kind of background, plus the Hurricanes’ struggles, make him a very suitable candidate for the head coaching position. She’s joined a long list of legendary players who thrived under coach Geno Auriemma, such as Swin Cash, Breanna Stewart, Maya Moore, Sue Bird, and, of course, Diana Taurasi.



Tauris just retired from the WNBA, while Bueckers is on her way to the league. With that in mind, she recalled an epic story about how Taurasi pushed her to be the player she is nowadays.

Back in 2022, during the Final Four, someone asked Diana Taurasi to pick a player for her pickup team. Instead of going with Bueckers as most people expected, she took USC star JuJu Watkins.

<h2>Bueckers confronted Diana Taurasi</h2>



It didn’t take long before that clip found its way to Bueckers. She then reached out to her fellow Huskie and confronted Taurasi for not choosing her. The WNBA legend, however, was playing chess, not checkers:



“I saw the video, and I was like, ‘All right, bro, I see what you’re doing. You picked JuJu over me. What’s up with that? You told me you had my back, it was me over everybody,’” Buekcers recalled. ” And she was like, ‘Yeah, dog, I just did that to motivate you. It’s all motivation.&apos;”

Needless to say, it worked. While Watkins will most likely be the top player in college once Bueckers is gone, Bueckers is now one of the greatest players in program history and is projected to be the first player taken in the 2025 WNBA Draft. The Arkansas Razorbacks hung on to beat the Texas Longhorns in a very exciting rivalry game. John Calipari’s team needed overtime to get the job done, but they still took care of business.



The Razorbacks were up by 12 at halftime, but <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a> prospect Tre Johnson proved to be one of the best scorers in all of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball </a>by single-handedly leading a comeback. Johnson scored 39 points to go along with seven three-pointers.



Even so, with the win, the Razorbacks now look like a lock to get the nod to enter the NCAA Tourney. That’s why Bob Stephens of Sports Illustrated likes their chances to beat anybody. 



<h2>Arkansas can beat anybody in the tournament, says analyst </h2>



“The other bad news might be for the team that has to face Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, even if that team is a six seed facing an 11th-seeded Arkansas,” wrote Stephens. Despite the near second-half collapse, make no mistake: Calipari’s team is surging. They dominated Texas in the first half, survived a great and gallant effort by Johnson, a future NBA star, while exhibiting a collective heart and will to win that could lead to multiple post-season games.”

Calipari’s team has won five of their last eight games. It’s also worth noting that those losses came against three ranked teams: No. 1 Auburn, No. 6 Alabama, and No. 12 Texas A&amp;M.

The junior star in Lexington was the late hero as the visiting team played spoilers handing the Oklahoma Sooners a deflating 83-82 loss. After the buzzer went off, Oweh issued an honest admission.



Kentucky mustered a close, yet pivotal win, as they passed the .500 mark in a complex SEC schedule. The Wildcats have an overall <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> record of 19-9, yet their intra-conference fixture hasn’t been a walk in the park, whatsoever.



With an 8-7 SEC record and ranked number 17 in the nation, the Wildcats walked into Norman to face the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/oklahoma-sooners">Sooners</a>, a team that has struggled all season but aimed to build on their recent ranked win over Mississippi State.



Oweh’s return to his former campus was one of the biggest storylines ahead of tip-off, and the Kentucky transfer guard made sure <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">college basketball</a> fans and students in Norman got their money’s worth.

“Playing at this school before, and then having some teammates on the court too, so there was just a lot of emotion to it,” Otega Oweh stated postgame, per On3. “At the end of the day, you kind of have to take that emotion out of it and try and get the win. So that’s what I was really focusing on.“

<h2>Business is business</h2>



Oweh did just that, dismantling the Sooners all night long with an incredible performance at Lloyd Noble Center. The Wildcats’ guard scored 28 points and, most importantly, drained the game-winning bucket with six seconds left on the clock.



“I feel like in the first half, I was kind of letting the game come to me and just letting everything play out,” Oweh continued. “But I wanted to be aggressive in the second half and just try to leave my imprint on both defense and offense.”



<h2>Postgame drama</h2>



The nail-biting ending had fans on the edge of their seats, if not standing, and the tension reached its pinnacle as a brawl broke out between the players after the final buzzer.

It appeared Oweh may have sparked the brawl after saying something to Oklahoma freshman Jeremiah Fears during the handshake line. The ritual salute was cut short, and both teams ultimately headed to their locker rooms.



After back-to-back road games, Kentucky returns home for their highly anticipated marquee matchup against No. 1 Auburn at Rupp Arena on March 1st.
