Starting next NCAAF season, Arch Manning is expected to take the reins on the field for the Texas Longhorns. The good news for the young quarterback is that the offense is slowly coming together—something head coach Steve Sarkisian is well aware of.

While the Longhorns made a run to the SEC Championship Game last season, one notable aspect of that achievement was their ability to do so despite dealing with multiple injuries in the running back room.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian has seen encouraging progress in the health of several players at that position, and in recent comments to the media, he expressed optimism that Manning will have solid support around him on offense heading into the upcoming season.

“I think that the backfield will be better, in some degree,” Steve Sarkisian said. “We got two guys coming off of injuries in CJ Baxter and Christian Clark, and we really think highly of both of them.

“We have a 1,000-yard rusher coming back, Tre Wisner, and we have a true freshman kid who’s going to be a sophomore in Jerrick Gibson, who played some really significant meaningful snaps in some big games. And so I feel really good about the running back room.”

The Longhorns’ investment for the upcoming season

The Texas Longhorns have serious intentions of making a run for the National Championship Game, and having a roster capable of handling the pressure could be one of the keys. According to Kirk Bohls of The Houston Chronicle, Texas plans to spend ‘between $35 million and $40 million’ on the 2025 roster.

“It currently sits somewhere, ‘between $35 million and $40 million,’ which counts the likely revenue-sharing allotment expected to be $20.5 million as well as payouts through the Texas One Fund, a connected source tells the Houston Chronicle,” Bohls said.

Additionally, according to the journalist, Arch Manning is the highest-paid player on the roster ‘by far,’ but ‘doesn’t take a dime from the school.’
