Alex Cora might be breathing a little easier after the Boston Red Sox wrapped up a grueling stretch in which they dropped five of nine games, salvaging some momentum with a series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers that brought a bit of relief to the club.
During that 9-game stretch against the Cubs, Phillies, and Dodgers, the Red Sox managed just four wins—one against Chicago, one versus Philadelphia, and two at home against Los Angeles to secure the series.
Despite the tough run and underwhelming results, Cora remained optimistic about his young roster: “We got a young team, and we know that… I don’t think the stage is too big for them,” he said, emphasizing that the Red Sox showed they can compete with top-tier teams.
Cora Shows Respect for the Phillies
The Red Sox dropped the first two games of the series against Philadelphia, stifled by elite pitching, and Cora didn’t sugarcoat it when addressing the challenge.
“Two of the best pitchers in the big leagues,” Cora said of Zack Wheeler and Cristopher Sánchez. “That’s the reason they’re good. If we want to play in October, we have to find a way to hit those guys.”
Bregman Still Believes in Red Sox Playoff Push
Just as Cora believes the team has the talent to make a deep run—even with more tough road games to close out July—Alex Bregman echoed that confidence.
“I feel like we believe that we’re a good team, we believe that we’re a playoff team, and we believe when we play at a high level, that we can play with anybody,” Bregman said.
