Brian Cashman is one of the people whose words are most sought after regarding the New York Yankees’ situation. However, as general manager, he doesn’t usually speak much on the topic, though this time he sent a kind of message to try to calm people down.
With the Yankees mired in a rough stretch, general manager Cashman was pressed about the team’s direction before the Cardinals game. His response hinted at urgency but also carried a sense of finality, making clear where he stands in the middle of New York’s difficult run.
Cashman before tonight’s game: “There’s a lot of time on the clock, but not enough time to…I don’t want to misrepresent there’s not urgency, because there is.” As for talking to the team, Cashman said that’s not why he’s there. “Everything that needs to be said, has been said,” reported Bolan on X.
Yankees’ Playoff Hopes
The urgency Brian Cashman referred to likely stems from the fact that the Yankees’ playoff chances have been cut back recently. According to FanGraphs, the team currently has an 84.3% probability of making the playoffs, a number that remains quite high despite their recent poor results.

August started on a very sour note for the Yankees, with some former players even making harsh comments about the organization and the team’s offensive struggles. However, the team has now won five of its last ten games, which could be a sign that they are starting to turn things around.
Cashman surely doesn’t want to see the team miss another postseason. Since becoming the Yankees’ general manager and vice president, the team has reached the MLB postseason in 22 of 26 seasons, a remarkable record for an iconic franchise.
