Carlos Mendoza finally got to see a win on the New York Mets‘ schedule after seven straight losses — most of them coming on the road. And on top of that, he witnessed another standout performance from Juan Soto in their game against the Phillies.
Without saying much, Mendoza was clear about what it meant to end the skid, saying: “You’re going to go through it, but we know we’re good. We know we’ve got good players, and it’s part of the grind of 162.” That was his response after the Mets’ 10-4 win over Philadelphia.
The Mets now sit at 46-31 and, at least for now, share the top spot in the NL East with the Phillies. This series could decide who takes control — at least temporarily — and the Mets will be looking to keep riding Juan Soto’s hot streak.
Soto shines in Game 2
Mendoza was clearly impressed with Soto’s second home run of the night against the Phillies, calling it: “Pretty impressive, that’s big league stuff right there… You just have to take a step back and admire it.” It was Soto’s seventh homer of the month.
Soto, for his part, was asked whether this has been his best stretch of the year with the Mets. He responded, “I’ve been feeling good since day one. Things just haven’t gone my way, finally I’m getting some luck and going from there.” A familiar answer he’s given during other strong runs this season.
When do the Mets return home?
The Mets will return home on June 23 to continue their relentless stretch with a four-game series against the Braves. They’ll close out the month on the road in Pittsburgh from June 27 to 29. The first series of July will be back at Citi Field against the Brewers.
