Chicago Cubs vs Detroit Tigers: Storylines

The Cubs couldn’t catch a break yesterday as the Tigers jumped to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back to get an easy 7-1 triumph. They victimized Tyler Chatwood and got 10 hits, including a Grand Slam by Jonathan Schoop.

Chicago will give the ball to veteran lefty Jon Lester, who’s been far from his usual self this season. Lester is 2-1 with a 5.06 ERA in 5 starts this season and surrendered2 homers in 3.2 IP during his last outing. He’s 3-6 with a 5.67 ERA in 12 career starts vs. the Tigers.

Detroit will try to keep momentum on their side and build from yesterday’s statement win. However, sending Michael Fulmer to the mound may not be what the doctor ordered for the Tigers.

Fulmer is currently on a three-inning limit as he’s coming off Tommy John surgery. He’s been terrible this season with a 9.53 ERA and WHIP of 2.029despite not logging a decision in 4 starts this season. That’s mouth-watering for Anthony Rizzo and Javier Báez amid their offensive slump.
