Dave Roberts delivers stinging message on his birthday after big win against Yankees

The New York Yankees suffered a crushing loss at the hands of Dave Roberts’ Dodgers — and the LA manager used the moment, on his birthday no less, to send a cold message.

Dave Roberts played a central role in the New York Yankees‘ 18-2 blowout loss at Dodger Stadium — fittingly, on his 53rd birthday. The game was a showcase of the offensive firepower the Dodgers have been flashing all season.

After the win, which sealed the series against the Yankees, Roberts didn’t hold back after the Dodgers big win at home. “It always feels good to beat the Yankees,” he said. “They’re the class of the American League right now. Any time you can beat those guys, you feel good.”

Reflecting on the way the game started — with his team up 10-0 by the bottom of the third — Roberts told Ken Rosenthal: “We’re off to a good start. I think offensively we had a great plan versus Warren…” Gerrit Cole’s advice to Will Warren clearly didn’t help much.

Roberts Praises Dodgers’ Lineup Depth

In a conversation with Rosenthal, Roberts highlighted the depth and talent of the Dodgers lineup — a roster that currently sits at 36-22 and comfortably leads the NL West over the Padres and Giants.

“I think it speaks to the talent, the team approach, being able to get in and take walks,” Roberts said. “I think we just show the depth that we have, and when we stick to our plan, we can do anything and beat anyone.”

Roberts’ Managerial Experience

Roberts has been managing in the big leagues since 2015, when he got his start with the Padres. He took over as Dodgers manager in 2016 and has since won two World Series — one as a manager, and one as a player with the Red Sox.
