George Springer has known Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for about five seasons now. Their friendship is undeniable, and following Guerrero’s recent $500 million extension with the Blue Jays, Springer didn’t hold back when speaking on the news.
In a recent interview, Springer made it clear how thrilled he is about Guerrero’s long-term deal, believing it likely means Guerrero will spend the rest of his MLB career in Toronto. Springer also added that Guerrero deserves to be honored by the organization one day.
“I feel like this is a very exciting day for Blue Jays fans as a whole, to have a guy like Vladdy who will be here for what looks like and sounds like his whole career. I wholeheartedly believe his name will be hanging up in the stadium one day.”
Springer wasn’t the only teammate to weigh in on the massive extension. Other Blue Jays players shared their thoughts as well, including Andrés Giménez, whose comment—shared by MLB reporter Keegan Matheson on his personal X account—highlighted Guerrero’s humility despite the money: “No. He’s the same guy. He’s just rich now.”

Guerrero Jr.’s future is locked in
Guerrero is now signed through 2039 with a guaranteed annual salary of $35.7 million, but his connection with the franchise goes beyond money. Teammate Bowden Francis described the extension as much more than just a financial milestone.
“Someone to take control of the team for the next decade, to hold the clubhouse, create a culture. This is going to be his domain. He’s going to pave the way for the young guys coming up for the next 14 years.”
