Kyle Schwarber gets public backing from Bryce Harper to stay with the Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies could lose Kyle Schwarber after the 2025 season if they don’t step up and offer him a strong new deal. But Bryce Harper has made it clear: he wants his teammate to stay in Philadelphia.

Kyle Schwarber has proven to be a critical piece for the Philadelphia Phillies this season, especially during stretches when stars like Bryce Harper got off to slow starts. Schwarber stepped up when the team needed him most — and he’s shown it game after game.

The Phillies’ deal with Schwarber runs through the end of the 2025 MLB season. If they don’t extend him, they risk losing the player who, as of the All-Star break, leads the team in RBIs with 74 — the most on the roster.

It’s clear his teammates want him to stay. Harper, in particular, has voiced his support — for the second time this year — saying he can’t picture Schwarber playing anywhere else outisde Philadelphia and he’s one of the most valuable teammates on his team

What did Harper say about Schwarber?

Following the Phillies’ 9-5 win over the Angels, Harper was asked by Destiny Lugardo about Schwarber’s future. His response was firm: “I can’t see him in any other uniform, and I think he deserves to be here.”

Harper called Schwarber a “great force” for the team and emphasized that he belongs in Philadelphia. He even referred to Schwarber as one of the best teammates he’s ever had: “He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had… ever been around.” Harper also praised Schwarber’s ability to step up during difficult stretches of the season.

Schwarber is on pace to match — or even exceed — the strong seasons he posted in 2022 and 2023, when he recorded over 100 RBIs in each. He’s already hit 32 home runs this season, putting him in range to surpass last year’s total of 38. He currently leads the team in walks, runs scored, and plate appearances.
