Travis Jankowski is returning to the New York Mets, getting a second chance with the team. In his most recent comments, Jankowski made it clear he’s ready to do whatever is needed—whatever manager Carlos Mendoza asks of him.
“I’ve played every day, I’ve come off the bench, pinch hit, pinch ran, defensive replacement… everything but pitch,” Jankowski said. “And if [Carlos Mendoza] asks me to pitch, I’ll go out there and eat an inning up.”
To Mets fans, Jankowski shared a heartfelt message: “To the fans, thanks for everything. I’m not sure why you guys love me, but I’ll take it. Hopefully I can keep the support.” He played just 43 MLB games with the Mets in 2022 and most recently saw major league time with the Rays.
What can Jankowski bring to the Mets?
Beyond his willingness to embrace any role, Jankowski was hitting .258 with the Rays recently, giving the Mets a potential offensive boost off the bench when needed.
He also played a role in the Rangers’ 2023 World Series title, hitting .263 over 107 regular-season games. In the postseason, he appeared in seven games and went 3-for-9 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs, a walk, and no strikeouts.

The Mets aren’t wasting time
The Mets have been making bold roster moves lately. They recently optioned both Francisco Álvarez and Luisangel Acuña to Triple-A—decisions aimed at helping the players develop further. In the meantime, they’re turning to players like Jankowski to fill gaps and contribute wherever possible.
