The MLB trade deadline is just around the corner, which means there are going to be countless rumors going back-and-forth throughout the internet. And, with the New York Yankees set to be buyers, Clint Frazier’s name has often been brought up in potential trade offers.
The Yankees’ outfielder is well aware of that. He’s used to being tied with trade rumors since he entered the Majors. That’s why he talked to Yankees.com to address the situation and claim that he just wants to play regardless of where he ends up (if he’s traded).
“I feel like it wouldn’t be a Trade Deadline unless my name is getting tossed in there,. I can’t even remember the last Trade Deadline that my name wasn’t mentioned. I’m still here. I’ve dealt with the possibility of maybe being traded; it hasn’t happened. I just want to play,” Frazier said.
“I can’t really control that. I’ve mentioned earlier, I’m done trying to play GM, but obviously it’s not a bad thing if my name is getting mentioned [in trade rumors]. Maybe it shows the interest of other teams in possibly wanting to acquire me,” the outfielder added.
Clint Frazier: The Ultimate Backup
Clint Frazier is in a bit of a tough situation here. The Yankees are clearly committed to Aaron Hicks, Giancarlo Stanton, and Aaron Judge as their outfielders. Also, Frazier’s history with Aaron Boone may not help his case.
Even so, he’s been putting a lot of work on his defense and is a great hitter. The Yankees have one of the toughest schedules in the Majors this season in the wake of all their postponed games so they could definitely use him.
Then again, Frazier is well aware of the fact that he’s not in control of his destiny and that he doesn’t care whether he’s a starter or a Yankee or not: he just wants to play and compete at the highest level:
“Just looking around the bus, I realized there’s a lot of people that didn’t come up through this organization, and I’m one of them. I just want to play. I feel like right now I have the ability to play at a little bit higher level than I have in the past. I’m ready to continue going out there and showing it, so whoever it’s for would be fine with me moving forward,” he concluded.
The Yankees are rumored to be looking for more starting pitchers ahead of the deadline. In that case, then Frazier and Miguel Andújar are the most likely trade candidates, even if they still have plenty left to give the organization.
