In welcome news for Yankees fans, Luis Gil could begin his throwing program in approximately two to three weeks, Boone confirmed to the New York Post. Boone also discussed the team’s plans for DJ LeMahieu ahead of their series against the Mets.
Gil was a consistent presence in the Yankees’ rotation in 2024, starting 29 games and posting a solid 3.50 ERA. This marked a significant step forward for him in his first full season as a key member of the pitching staff that helped propel the Yankees to the postseason.
Yankees Optimistic About Gil’s Return
The Yankees are undoubtedly eager to see a healthy Gil back in their rotation. They are optimistic that he can replicate, or even build upon, his impressive 2024 performance, where he logged 151.2 innings and racked up 171 strikeouts, second-most on the team behind Carlos Rodon.

What Could Gil Bring to the Yankees Upon His Return?
Beyond the valuable experience gained from last season, Gil’s return would provide a much-needed boost to a rotation that has undergone significant changes in the early months of the current season. Having the 2024 Rookie of the Year runner-up back in the fold would inject another strong arm into the Yankees’ pitching staff.
