The New York Yankees have been without DJ LeMahieu for the entire season so far as he’s worked his way back from a calf injury that has taken longer than expected to heal. But now, things are finally looking up.
“The plan is for DJ LeMahieu to be activated off the IL tomorrow and make his first start on Wednesday,” manager Aaron Boone told reporters, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post. “He is en route to Seattle now.”
LeMahieu is entering his sixth MLB season in pinstripes and has been a reliable utility infielder since joining the Yankees. His last appearance in a regular-season game came back in September 2024.
Where will LeMahieu play when he returns to the Yankees lineup?
With Jazz Chisholm Jr. sidelined due to an oblique injury, LeMahieu may step in at that spot temporarily. All eyes will be on Boone’s lineup decisions when the Yankees wrap up their series against the Mariners on Wednesday, May 14.

LeMahieu’s experience and versatility are key for New York’s infield depth, and he’s also capable of contributing at the plate. Despite being limited to just 67 games last season, he owns a .278 batting average since joining the Yankees in 2019.
