Yankees lose outfielder to injury as Aaron Boone announces IL move

Unfortunately, the New York Yankees suffered multiple setbacks during a recent game against the Rangers — not only failing to close out a win but also losing a left fielder to injury.

The New York Yankees will now be without a left fielder who was expected to provide an offensive boost. After a brief stint with the White Sox this season, he was injured in a game against the Rangers, and Aaron Boone had to announce him as the newest member of the injured list.

According to a report from Greg Joyce, Boone addressed Austin Slater’s status following the game. The veteran outfielder, who had hit five home runs for the White Sox this season, was brought in to help solidify the Yankees’ lineup and potentially add to his .220-plus batting average.

The injury occurred in the first inning after Slater reached first base. Observers noted his running speed had clearly diminished, and he was removed shortly after, replaced by Jasson Domínguez.

Slater Could Return Soon

The timetable for Slater’s return will depend on the results of an upcoming MRI. Speaking after the game, he acknowledged the situation but remained hopeful, saying the extent of the damage remains to be seen. He was at least able to walk off the field under his own power after recording his first hit as a Yankee.

A Veteran With Experience

Slater brings nine years of major league experience, having spent most of his career with the San Francisco Giants. He owns a career .249 batting average and had appeared in 51 games for the White Sox this season before being acquired by New York, totaling 29 hits, 11 RBIs, and five home runs.

The Yankees are counting on players like Slater to contribute, especially with continued uncertainty in the outfield. The recent announcement of Aaron Judge’s return could help stabilize things, but Slater’s injury removes a key option from Boone’s lineup plans.
