Austin Reaves has steadily emerged as one of the most intriguing players in the NBA. He plays a key role for the Los Angeles Lakers. His rise from undrafted rookie to essential starter has impressed fans and analysts alike. Recently, the 25-year-old guard decided to make an impressive confession. In an interview, Reaves addressed a stigma he has dealt with since entering the league.

You know, as a white guy in the NBA, I sometimes look at white players and I’m like, ‘They’re not very good,’…So, it’s a stigma that I think is real,” stated Reaves on ESPN. The Lakers guard spoke candidly about the impact of stereotypes on how players like him are perceived in today’s NBA. His comments have sparked debate among fans, with many now questioning whether those same biases played a role in him going undrafted back in 2021.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick backed up Austin’s comments by reflecting on his own journey, explaining that every player in their position faces constant scrutiny. I think every guy in our shoes has experienced some level of this where you’re going to be tested. And truthfully, no matter how many times you pass that test, you’re going to be tested again.”
