LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers recently reached an agreement over a 2-year, $85-million contract extension. That means that The King will wear the purple and gold through the 2022/23 season at least.
That also means that the Los Angeles Lakers are likely to keep Anthony Davis under contract until that very same season, as the rumor around the league is that Davis will look to match his deal to LeBron’s.
Once he gets that paycheck at the end of the 2020/21 season, James is set to become the highest earner in the history of basketball, surpassing Kevin Garnett’s $326 million. Moreover, he’s set to make over $435 million just as an NBA player.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has agreed to a two-year, $85 million maximum contract extension with the franchise, CEO of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, told @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

LeBron would need to average 19 ppg to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. That plus 2 more rings officially ends the GOAT discussion. https://t.co/xTfVgkdLTR

At this point, it’s more likely than not that LeBron gets to *at least* 6 rings.
Which will, as I’ve said for 3 years now, make all of the “GOAT arguments” looks so foolish in hindsight.
It’s not even going to be close or debatable when it’s all said and done. https://t.co/BdhikfQwXP

Some players have been vastly overpaid over the past couple of years, that’s not a secret. Also, there are huge risks when you give that much money to a player that’s already set to turn 36 years old.
Then again, LeBron James is no ordinary player and he just proved that. He dominated the rest of the league while playing on both ends of the court despite being on his 17th year, and judging by the way he takes care of his body, he can definitely continue making an impact even at 40.
Moreover, the Lakers will keep enough cap space and flexibility to surround James and Davis with more talents, so don’t sleep on the purple and gold, as they’re not going anywhere any time soon.
