It seems like itās always the same story with the Philadelphia 76ers. They make some nice additions to try and help Joel Embiid lead them to the NBA Finals, yet they always find the way to underperform when it matters most. Then, theyāre tied with countless NBA trade rumors. Wash, rinse, and repeat.
The Boston Celtics swept the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs. To be fair, they were without star playmaker and defender Ben Simmons. Then again, Tobias Harris and Al Horford are making almost 300 million dollars and were massive no-shows.
There were already plenty of doubts about this teamās ability to coexist. Itās pretty clear that Joel Embiid is already a superstar but the fit next to their core is questionable, to say the least. The odd man out in rumors has often been Ben Simmons. However, for the first time, it seems like the former Jayhawk is considering the possibility of a trade.
Joel Embiid Unsure About His Future With The Sixers.
Ever since being drafted 3rd overall in 2014, Joel Embiid embraced his role as the face of the franchise and the leader on and off the court. Heās the biggest fan favorite in the team andhasnāt hesitated to call himself or everybody else out but heās also stepped up to defend and have his teammateās backs.
Now, after everythingtheyāve been through and given that Elton Brand loves to gamble with his assets, it seems like the African star is starting to deal with the fact that he may no longer be in the City of Brotherly Love:
āI donāt make the decision. Iām here in Philly. Whatever happens, happens. Iāve always said that I want to end my career [in Philadelphia], and if it happens, good. If it doesnāt happen, well, you move on and all that stuff,ā Embiid said following his teamās departure from the bubble.
This is the first time that JoJo threw a slight shade at the possibility of not being with the Sixers. Heās given his heart and soul to the franchise and tried to carry the load on both ends for them vs. Boston.
Joel Embiid still has three years left in his contract and almost every team in the NBAwould line up to try and trade for him, assumingBrand in fact wants to explore his options. Still, it feels like giving up on āThe Processā will haunt them for decades.
