The Golden State Warriors struggled early in the season but managed to turn things around and reach the playoffs. Although they fell to the Timberwolves in the conference semifinals, the team showed clear signs of progress. After the elimination, rumors about Kevin Durant’s failed return in the past trade window resurfaced among fans. In response, Steve Kerr addressed the situation and revealed how close Durant came to making a comeback.
“I think it’s well documented that we were trying to get Kevin Durant. That didn’t happen. Mike just calls me and says, ‘Hey, I think we’re going to trade for Jimmy Butler. I’m going to vouch for him. I played with him for three years in Chicago. The guy’s a gamer,” stated Steve Kerr on The Tom Tolbert Show.
Kevin Durant’s return could have been a major moment for Warriors fans. It could have offered a chance to reunite part of the team that won two NBA titles. Also, Durant left a strong legacy in Golden State. He was named Finals MVP in both championship runs. Because of that, many fans still hold him in high regard.
However, many fans and NBA analysts argue that Jimmy Butler’s arrival better addressed the team’s roster needs. He brought balance and improved overall chemistry. More importantly, he delivered in the playoffs and raised the team’s level when it mattered most.

Despite a disappointing year for the Phoenix Suns, Kevin Durant put together a strong season at age 36. He played 62 games and averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. That output ranked sixth in the league in scoring. He finished just behind Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics and surpassing Stephen Curry.
Even so, Durant’s future in Phoenix remains uncertain. The Suns failed to deliver results despite their star-filled roster. As a result, multiple NBA insiders report the team could decide to move on from the veteran forward. Given his age, Durant may seek a fresh start with a true title contender. He wants to win a third championship before retiring and hopes to end his career on a high note.
